Looks like Amazon had it right. The venerable Nintendo Power recently posted snippets of their latest issue online, including part of a preview of, not “Guitar Hero 6,” but Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.
The preview includes details about the game’s new Quest Mode, which is heading off in a heavy-metal-fantasy direction that brings to mind Brütal Legend. “You’ve seen the albums with rivers of chrome and guys on horses with bat wings and stuff,” project lead Brian Bright told NP. “[The game is] drawing inspiration from that over-the-top rock-’n'-roll fantasy.”
And another rumor confirmed: The quest mode will indeed be narrated by Gene Simmons, who will guide you on your quest to reclaim the guitar of the Demigod of Rock from “The Beast.”
There are more details to be found even in this partial preview, including features exclusive to the Wii version, so take a peek at the excerpt and watch for the July issue of Nintendo Power to appear on your local newsstand any day now.

I wish the 19 songs revealed were on those two pages *sigh*
The Kotaku article is basically:
“hey check out this lame story with some Wii graphics!”
Does it even matter what songs will be in the game? a bigger concern for me is whether or not songs from the previous games will be backwards compatible. Lets face it, Activision isnt really the best when it comes to available songs in their games. This article makes me think they are shying away from being a music sim and pursuing more of a “game” with a story attached. Why do I want to get the guitar from the Demigod? I would rather invest my time playing some songs that are worth playing.
Keep your gimmicks Activision – Give us a reason to play the game with a decent playlist.
Two pages mostly on silly plot, which might just turn out to be short, lame cartoons?
Reminders to all: The Guitar Hero series has hyped up stories before…but if anyone remembers the stories to the silly cartoons or watches them more than twice I’d be shocked.
I care about the songs only…and this “rock-oriented” format seems like it could be a disastrous move if it ends up repeating too much from Harmonix catologue (and heck I bet they cannibalize World Tour, Smash Hits and Aerosmith on it, as well), since it limits the types of music and bands that would be in the game. I basically don’t play GH 5 that much, mainly because the DLC is too meager, repetitive to stuff already released, usually not very hip…and I got irritated of waiting for songs from other discs to transfer…which I guess they decided they’d rather just sell as DLC instead.
The core game of GH5 had great songs, from all kinds of different genres, (and i was disappointed in Van Halen, Lego, Band Hero and the Beatles – which had too many lame songs and not enough classic Lennon…though the DLC mostly made up for it…and thought GH5 was best music game since Metallica, and before that RB2, because of that setlist) so they might have amputated my favorite feature of the game.
Personally, I’d rather play a Kiss game where you could blow fire and spit blood at will, then – what the kids are calling it – Brutal Legend light.
(that said, this is a day one purchase for me mainly for the Ozzy, Metallica song, but I think RB3 is gonna crush it)
It didnt take long for GH5 to reach a price of 15 bucks in stores. I’ll wait to purchase this one (if I ever do) til it reaches the same price point.
I wonder if the songs will be transferrable into GH5. I dont care about the story, just give us more songs to play. And I’m already not impressed with the song list thus far…
Since I cant find anywhere on the web about the song list, I will put in the songs listed in the current XBox magazine:
AFI – Dancing thru Sunday
Black Sabbath – Children of the GRave
Buzzcocks – What do I get?
Children of Bodom – If you want peace prepare for war
Def Leppard – Pour Some Sugar On Me (Live)
Dethklok – Bloodlines
Dragonforce – Fury of the Storm
Janes Addiction – Been Caught Stealing
Kiss – Love Gun
Megadeth – Sudden Death (appearantly written just for this game)
Metallica & Ozzy Osbourne – Paranoid (Live)
Muse – Uprising
My Chemical Romance – I’m not ok I promise
Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody
Rammstein – Waidmanns Hell
Silversun Pickups – Theres no secrets this year
Slayer – Chemical Warfare
The Cure – Fascination Street
ZZTop – Sharp Dressed Man (Live)
This list doesnt exactly get me excited to purchase this game…
And the GH:WOR website is saying it’s going to be released September 20, and not September 21, like the Amazon page.
